How To Use a Heated Lash Curler for the Perfect Lash

Most lashes naturally have a gentle curl that keeps them out of your line of vision. For people with incredibly short lashes, a curl may seem out of the question. Straight-lashed peeps, we hear your cries for curls!

We’ll help you learn how to curl your lashes (both real and artificial) and give you some helpful hints about curling your Gossamers® for extreme fusion and ultimate curl. First, let’s find out why curled lashes are a “thing” in the first place.

The Benefits of Curled Lashes

The appeal of tightly curled lashes isn’t new. Ancient cultures considered naturally curled lashes to be a desirable beauty trait. However, aside from the ability to darken lashes with natural ingredients (like kohl), the ancients couldn’t curl their lashes. Lash curlers wouldn’t be developed until the thirties.

What’s the big deal with curled lashes? There are a few obvious benefits.

  • Curled lashes make your eyes look larger. The further away your lash curls from the whites of your eyes, the more of your eye that’s noticeable. Curled lashes naturally make your eyes appear larger and can even make you look more awake.
  • Curled lashes are more defined and bold. Lashes rule the eye world, and nothing looks bolder or more defined than curled lashes.
  • Curled lashes look longer. If you have short lashes, it may seem counterproductive to curl them, but curled lashes actually give the illusion of more length.

The curls have it, and there are a few ways to get the lash curl you want.

Ways To Curl Your Lashes

Since the invention of the standard metal eyelash curler back in the thirties, there have been some serious advances in eyelash curling methods.

Standard Eyelash Curlers

Now available (thankfully) with padded cushions, the eyelash curler you grew up with is still around, but usually in a safer-to-use design.

Standard eyelash curlers clamp your natural lashes between two metal pieces that squeeze the lashes and create a bend in the shaft of the lash. There are a few reasons this isn’t a great way to get the job done.

  1. The padded cushions can wear out, exposing the metal, which can literally break your lashes or pull them out.
  1. Eyelash curlers tend to bend lashes rather than curl them, resulting in a weird, upturned lash that doesn’t look natural.
  1. You can damage the delicate skin of the eyelid if you get too close to the root, which creates another problem. You want lashes that curl from the root, but a manual lash curler can pinch and hurt.

If you’re using Gossamers, it’s best to avoid using a standard lash curler. The lash curler can break the bond and cause your Gossamers to come loose. A damaged eyelash curler may even break your Gs.

Lash Lift

A lash lift is like a perm for your eyelashes. Seriously.

A lash lift is done in a salon by a professional who applies a curling solution to your lashes. This is a time-consuming process, and you’ll need to have it repeated every few weeks as your natural lashes fall out and are replaced with new ones that aren’t curled.

Lash lift costs can really add up, not to mention you’ll have to sit in a chair with a protective eye covering on to protect your eyes from the chemical solution that curls your eyelash hairs!

Heated Lash Curlers

The real MVP of the lash curl world is a heated lash curler. It’s seriously the easiest and most effective way to curl your lashes. Don’t freak out; these lash curlers are coated in silicone to protect you from getting burned, but they do get hot, so make sure you are using them with care.

Heated lash curlers get hot enough to warm your Gossamers and the bond that helps them seal to your lash line, which makes them a great way to curl not only your natural lashes but also your baby Gs.

The Benefits of Heated Lash Curlers

If you haven’t jumped on the trend, here’s your sign. Heated lash curlers are hands down the best way to get the curl you want without damaging your lashes or ending up with an unnatural look.

  • Heated lash curlers don’t bend your lashes; they just curl your lashes. Heated lash curlers look a bit like a mascara wand, which means you won’t have to worry about pinching or bending your lashes, as there’s no clamp involved.
  • No breaks or rips. Because there aren’t any clamps, you won’t have to risk ripping your lashes out or breaking the bond on your Gossamers. The gentle heat naturally curls the lashes by distributing heat to the base upward through the lash as you comb the curling wand upward.
  • Lashes stay curled longer than with a manual curler. Using a manual lash curler can create a curl that falls flat virtually instantaneously, especially if you apply mascara to the lashes. Curling the lashes once you’ve applied mascara can cause breakage and is a bad idea. With a heated lash curler, your lashes stay in place for hours.
  • Heated lash curlers can help your Gossamers stay in place. Your Gs are made to last up to ten days, but depending on your activity level and your application skills, your mileage may vary.

Using a heated lash curler can help reactivate the bond on your Gossamers and lengthen the time between changing your lashes. It’s easy, fast, and a great way to get the most life out of one application.

It’s easy to learn to use a heated lash curler. We’ll introduce you to Lashify®’s Lashicurl® and give you all the info you need to use it right the very first time.

Heated Lash Curler How-To

If you've just purchased your Lashicurl heated silicone curling wand and are ready to try it out on your favorite pair of Gossamers, we’ve got you covered. Our heating wand has three settings, so you can opt for a low-key curl or a dramatic C-shaped lash; the choice is yours.

We recommend practicing with Lashicurl on its lowest setting on your natural lashes and Gossamers so you can become comfortable with how it feels and learn to use it.

There are two ways to curl your Gossamers; in the cartridge or by heat fusing

In The Cartridge

To curl your Gossamers while they’re still in the cartridge, follow these quick and easy steps.

  • Remove the protective cap from the Lashicurl wand and press and hold the power button to turn it on. (A lower setting will curl less, and a higher setting will curl more.
  • Allow Lashicurl to heat up for 15 seconds.
  • While your Gossamers are still in the cartridge, place the heating comb end of the Lashicurl against the Gossamer fibers.
  • Gently comb through the Gossamers, focusing on the tips, which will naturally curl the most.

Once you’ve curled your Gossamers, you can apply them as you normally would.

Heat Fusing

To curl your Gossamers and reactivate the bond to help them stay in place longer, you’ll work with them while they’re applied to your natural lashes.

  • Turn on Lashicurl and place it on its highest setting. Allow 15 seconds for it to heat up.
  • Next, press and hold the Lashicurl heated wand to the root of your Gossamers, where they are applied to your natural lashes. Leave in place for 10 seconds.
  • Comb the heating wand slowly through the Gossamers, leaving the wand on the tips for a few seconds if you want added curl.
  • Repeat the above steps one more time for maximum effect.
  • Next, grab your Fuse Control™ Wand without a Wandom™ and do a full fuse on your Gossamers. It’s important to bypass the Wandom™ because you need the coolness of the Fuse Control™ Wand to set the bond that you’ve just heated with the curler.

This technique is ideal for using in between Gossamer applications and for adding a little curl to a set of Gossamers after you’ve already applied them.

Helpful Hints for Using a Heated Lash Curler

Practice makes progress. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind.

  • Don’t rush. Always allow the Lashicurl to heat up before you use it, and make sure you leave it on your lash line long enough for it to work.
  • If you have uber-straight natural lashes, curling them before you apply your Gossamers can help your Gossamer application go more smoothly.
  • For ultimate bonding, go for the Defcon 5 bonding technique, which involves heat-fusing your Gossamers before sealing them.

Once you get comfortable with it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without your heated lash curler.

Comin’ In Hot

Curly lashes? That’s not a problem. Lashicurl makes it easy for you to curl, define, and add boldness to your natural lashes and your Gossamers. Three different settings put you in charge of the drama, so you can go as big and bold or as low-key as you want.
