How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Take?

Let’s make this simple. If you want to get salon lash extensions, you have two options: go to the salon or DIY them at home. One will take up about two to three hours of your day; the other will take between 10 and 30 minutes. 

Lash extensions, whether you have them professionally done by a lash artist or do them yourself, are tiny, tedious, and take a little practice. A professional application takes much longer than a DIY application, but if you aren’t well-practiced or if you aren’t working with a user-friendly kit (like Lashify®), you can end up devoting too much of your time to your lash styling. 

Together, we’ll talk about how salon lashes work, why they take so long, and how long they last. Then, we’ll compare them to the Lashify DIY Lash Extension™ System so you can confidently decide which works best for you.

Salon Lashes 101

Salon lash extensions are a type of lash enhancement you have done in a professional salon setting by a trained professional. Salon lash extensions come in three different forms: classic, volume, and hybrid.

• Classic lashes. These lashes are focused on creating length. They are applied to your natural lashes in a 1:1 ratio, so a false lash extension will be applied for every natural lash. 

• Volume lashes. If you want length and volume, you’ll want volume lash extensions. Volume lash extensions are clusters of lash fibers bound together on one central spine, which is then applied to an individual lash. The ratio of application differs depending on how voluminous your extensions are. The ratio will be multiple lash fibers to one natural lash.

• Hybrid lashes. Hybrid lashes provide a completely natural look by combining a mix of classic and volume lashes. This gives you more control over the end result of your lash style and is the most popular style of lash extension application available. Your lash artist will combine both classic lashes and volume lashes to create the perfect fringe that fits you best. 

The length of time it will take to have your lashes applied depends on the skill level of your lash tech, whether or not you have existing extensions that need to be removed, and the style of lashes you select. 

Most salons tell their clients to reserve about two to three hours for an initial application. Remember that you’ll also have to factor in travel time to and from the salon. 

How Long Will They Last?

Your salon lash extensions are designed to stay on your natural lashes until they naturally fall out. Your natural lashes are all on a dedicated growth cycle. Each lash is on a separate cycle, so they all fall out and get replaced with new lashes at different times. 

Depending on your own personal lash growth cycle, you may need fills (additional extensions) sooner than you expect. You can plan on having your lash extensions filled every few weeks. If your lash extensions break, which is fairly common, you may end up needing a fill sooner. 

Fills take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how many additional lashes you need.

How Long Does It Take To Apply Lashify Gossamer Lashes?

For beginners and first-time users, we recommend scheduling 30 to 45 minutes to apply your first set of Gossamers. This tutorial walks you through the step-by-step application process so you can get a great application the first time you use the Lashify system. 

It will probably take a few applications before you like a Lashify professional. Once you’re comfortable with application, you can easily apply a full set of Gossamer lashes in about 10 to 15 minutes. 

How Long Will Gossamer Lashes Last?

Your Gossamer lashes are designed to last up to 10 days with proper care. If you are just beginning with the Lashify system, we recommend you avoid sleeping in your Gossamer lashes until you’re completely comfortable with the Bonding and Fusing techniques that work best for you.
